It stars Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, who were all in the original Ghostbusters movies. Also back in the new movie is William Atherton’s Walter Peck, who played the bad guy in the 1984 original and first tried to stop the team while working as an officer for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Kenan was asked by The Hollywood Reporter if there were ever any attempts to get Rick Moranis to come back as the poor accountant Louis Tully. The director said that question should be asked of his writing partner and producer Jason Reitman, but he did say that he and Reitman had never written a part for Moranis.

In the same way, he said that Dana Barrett, played by Sigourney Weaver, was left out because “there was no story” for her in Frozen Empire. Read what he had to say below:

That’s a question for Jared Reitman. That story was more about hell. Louis Tully never had a part in Frozen Empire. There are enough people in this story. Also, I love Tully. I really enjoy Rick Moranis’s work. Louis Tully was a part of Ghostbusters that will never be forgotten. One of my favorite characters in these movies is also Dana Barrett, but she didn’t have a story in Frozen Empire. But if we get to make more of these movies, I’d love for Dana to have more to do in them.

The best way for Ghostbusters to bring back Dana Barrett, played by Sigourney Weaver

Dana Barrett was played by Weaver again in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Moreover, if Kenan and Reitman want to bring Dana Barrett back for a future sequel, her story in 1989’s Ghostbusters II provides the perfect opportunity to do so.

Fans of the Ghostbusters movies would love to see Robert Moranis return to the series, but he reportedly quit acting in 1997 to spend more time with his two kids.

However, the project has since been put on hold, and the actor has still not made his public return to the big screen. He had agreed to return to the business in 2020 for a revival of Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

This makes it much more possible that Weaver will be able to return in a future Ghostbusters movie, especially since she agreed to come back for a scene after the credits in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Also, if Kenan and Reitman want to bring Dana Barrett back for a future sequel, Ghostbusters II (1989), which has her story, is the right chance to do so. She was shown to be a single mother with a young son named Oscar. Vigo the Carpathian, the movie’s supernatural bad guy, would later go after her baby son.

Because Reitman hinted at Vigo’s possible return earlier, Weaver might look to the new Ghostbusters to help keep her adult son from falling for the same thing that tried to take his body as a child but failed.

Another benefit is that this could help bridge the gaps between the first movies and the most recent ones in the series. But at this point, it’s not clear if there will be another movie in the Ghostbusters series after Frozen Empire. However, there are still many ways for the franchise to grow.
