The raisins and cinnamon in hot cross buns make them a little sweet, and the dough is wonderfully puffy. Good Friday celebrations have become a part of Easter.

Ingredients
Put raisins in a small bowl, and then pour hot water over them. After 10 minutes, drain them and set them away. Dry on paper towels.
Stir 1/4 cup very warm milk and 1 tablespoon sugar in a small bowl, then sprinkle yeast on top. Stir and wait 10 minutes at room temperature. The mixture should bubble and nearly double.
In a large basin or stand mixer bowl, combine 1/2 cup very warm milk, remaining sugar, softened butter, eggs, and salt. Mix well. Whisk in the yeast mixture.Stir in vanilla.
Mix cinnamon and flour 1 cup at a time into the yeast mixture with a dough hook attachment until a soft dough forms.
On a small to medium speed, knead the dough for about 10 minutes, or until it is smooth and barely sticks to your fingers or the bowl.
After adding the raisins and mixing them in, put the dough in a bowl that has been greased. Cover it with a towel and let it sit at room temperature for two hours.
Knead dough lightly on a floured board and cut into 12 equal pieces. Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish and place balls. Rest in a warm environment for 30 minutes under a towel.Start by preheating your oven to 375˚F.
In a bowl, whisk water and egg until smooth to make egg wash.Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top after brushing with egg wash.Remove from oven and cool in pan.
To make the glaze, combine the sugar, vanilla, and milk in a bowl and stir until the mixture is completely smooth.
Add additional milk, half a teaspoon at a time, if the mixture is too thick to be worked with. If you find that the glaze is too runny, you may also gradually add more sugar to it.
Use the glaze to create the appearance of a cross on each bun when it has cooled.Serve and take pleasure in it!
