Ingredients
Cut the onions into thin rings and then separate each ring into its own. Put the rings in a big bowl.Put the onion rings in milk and let them soak for 20 minutes.
Put flour, salt, garlic powder, and ground black pepper in a medium-sized bowl. Mix with a whisk. As soon as you're ready to cook, put oil in a big, deep pan set on high heat.
When the oil is hot, add a handful of onion rings to the flour mixture in batches, cover, and brush off excess. Turn frequently in hot oil until golden brown. To drain oil, place French fried onions on a paper towel-lined baking sheet.Continue with remaining onion rings.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9x13 inch casserole dish.Melt butter in a large non-stick pan over medium heat, then add onion slices and simmer for 1-2 minutes until tender.
For around six to eight minutes, add minced garlic, asparagus, and mushrooms, and simmer while tossing the mixture occasionally.
Salt, pepper, paprika, thyme, and lemon zest should be used to season the dish. In order to mix, stir.
Cream and flour should be put in a measuring cup and mixed together with a whisk.Add the flour mixture to the pan and stir it around for three to four minutes, or until it gets thick.
Bring the temperature down to a low setting and toss in the cream cheese and mayonnaise until they are completely mixed.
Take it off the heat and fold in both types of cheese until they melt.Break up about 1 1/2 cups of french-fried onions and add them to the asparagus.
Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish that has been prepared. On top, sprinkle the remaining onions that have been French-fried.
Put into the oven and bake for thirty to forty minutes, or until the mixture begins to bubble.Serve with more onions that have been French-fried on top.
